Crazy laws in the UK and USA
Legal jobs are respected by the public, though there is a funny side to the law. The funny side of law is reported below.
Although they may have made sense to some at the time they were passed, these laws look pretty ridiculous today. Britain and the United States of America have some strange laws. Although these laws are only from two countries, there are plenty of stupid laws in many other countries too.
- In the UK it is illegal to die in the Houses of parliament.
- If you put a stamp with the queen upside down you can be charged with treason in the UK.
- On Christmas day in the UK you are not to eat mince pies.
- In Ohio, USA, you are not allowed to get fish drunk.
- If you fancy working as a topless female clerk in a tropical fish shop, then Liverpool in the UK is the city to go to, where this is perfectly legal.
- You are breaking the law when you drive blindfolded in the state of Alabama in the USA.
- You cannot turn away someone knocking on your door asking to use the toilet in Scotland.
- If you are wearing a suit of armour you will not be allowed into the British Parliamentary buildings.
- Sunday parachuting is off the cards if you're unmarried and a woman living in Florida, USA.
- If you are a Scotsman, do not walk the streets of York in England whilst carrying a bow and arrow, as you can be legally killed by anyone, as long as you are within the ancient city walls.
So if you are entering a legal profession you may one day find yourself looking up one of these ridiculous laws. Surely these laws will be revised at some time, but to date they have survived within the legal systems used in these two powerful countries.
